"Face the music"不是“面對音樂”！真正的意思你絕對想不到！

“Music”是生活的調劑品，沒有“music”的生活是有所缺失的。然而，“Face the music”卻不是大家想象中的“面對音樂”。這個說法跟音樂并沒有什么關系，表達的意思是：“承擔后果”，面對現實或者處理一些現實狀況，接受所有的結果，不管是好是壞。但大多數情況下都是不太好的結果。有時候，也用來表示接受懲罰，接受某個行為帶來的直接后果。


 

這個短語來源于劇場。演員們在舞臺上表演時，就直接面對著樂池中的樂隊，在舞臺上，演員經常會由于緊張或怯場而造成忘詞等尷尬的局面，只要音樂一響，演員就沒有任何選擇的余地，只能去face the music（必須承受出現的局面）。人們遂用face the music指承擔自己行為的后果。

 

Don't escape, you should face the music when you did something wrong.

別逃避，做了錯事就要勇于承擔后果。

After failing a math test, Tom had to go home and face the music.

數學考試掛掉了，Tom不得不回家接受懲罰。

He’s been cheating us out of our money for years, and now it’s time for him to face the music.

Mary broke a dining-room window, and had to face the music when her father got home.
